The next KDM Miniature: Pinup Order Knight (Painted Late Sept, 18)

The next miniature that I decided to paint was the Pinup Order Knight. This is usually the section that I post a blurb from the game that articulates the miniature, but I couldn't find anything. Poo. So I'll make my own.

"This miniature could have come out better. What's up with the eyes?"

- KDM painter

Not the best quote, but it's true. I chose this miniature next because of the action in the stance of the miniature as well as the unique design of the base. I think I painted this miniature around the end of September, 2018. As usual, I painted the miniature based on the original art. This time, I went ahead and took a picture of the art card for comparison.

Hopefully me take a pic of this doesn't break copyright laws...
I first wanted to get the details down pat.

Fun fact: the eyes used to look worse!

I like the base color theme for this miniature, but I could have spend more time on the shading and highlighting details, especially for the skin. Also, this was my first true attempt at eyes and well... could have come out better. Probably would have been helpful to research how to paint eyes beforehand.

I really didn't put in a lot of time on the sword, and it shows in the pictures. I've had comments about this, and so going forward, I'll try to improve on this.

At the time of paining, I think that the highlighting on the cape came out pretty good. However, comparing my later works, I realize that this could be a whole lot better (this will become apparent as my later works get posted). On top of that, I've begun to realize that the very pale skin-tone make it pretty hard to further add shadowing and highlighting without altering the overall "look" of the base skin-tone. This will be something that I'll need to work on.

Since this model has an unique base, I really wanted to make this stand out.

I didn't have any real art comparisons for the base so I kind of winged the whole thing. I did a bit of layering for the shadowing and highlights on the stone faces. My camera isn't the best at getting these details captured (and I'm not a good photographer) but hopefully this picture gives you a good idea.

Besides the stone faces on the ground, the Order Knight is standing on a stone slate that has a demonic-like face depicted on it. I wanted to go with a darker base to have it stand out. I also took red paint and created a wash to give the nooks and cranes of the stone face a bloody effect. Afterwards, I did a few different dry-brush layered to highlight the stone slab and to give it a weathered look.

In the end, this one will definitely need some touch-ups. Luckily, this will be easy to do. Still, hope this post is enjoyable and informative.
