It Begins...

I've been painting miniatures for about five months now and I've been considering using a medium to showcase my amateur work. I'm not a big fan of just posing pictures on social media without presenting a story, hence why I decided on starting up a blog.

But why even start up miniature painting in the first place? After all, t's not a common hobby among adult men (even though it should be). Sometimes when explaining why someone does something, it's best to start at the beginning...

I was introduced to miniatures a long time ago, way back in 97 (I think?). I remember when I was first introduced to the world of miniatures via Warhammer 40K. A shopping catalog randomly came in the mail adverting multiple Warhammer 40K miniatures. I was quickly enthralled. I read over that magazine for at least two months - looking at the same pictures over and over - until I was able to scrounge up enough monies to get a few miniatures myself. I should note that I was 13 so buying Warhammer miniatures was not something to just spurge on. Anyway, I got a few miniatures, had no paint or brushes and had no idea how to paint miniatures (this was all pre-Google). So, with no direction, I naturally became aimless. I got an subscription to White Dwarf hoping that the magazine would help, but the more I looked at the paintwork of masters, the more I saw how daunting the task of painting the miniatures would be. Tack on the cost of getting paining supplies, I eventually stowed my miniatures and moved on. Still, I remember how much I was drawn to the intricate details of those 1.5 inch miniatures, and how much I wanted to recreate the masterwork that I saw in the magazines.

Fast forward to about six months ago. My fiance and I are always looking for more things to do together. Also, we're both nerds, so anyone connecting the dots may see where this section of the story is heading. I suggested that we try our hand at D&D - although specifically, I suggested Pathfinder since I was guessing that the rules would be a bit easier since the game hasn't been around as long as D&D. We got some rule books, got the starter box, and began to play. We were having alright fun. As time progressed I began to look into the miniatures to compliment the game. I found some cheap Reaper miniatures, and some cheap starter painting kits, and I found myself back to the late nineties. This time - with the help of Google and YouTube - I actually started painting my miniatures and I've been enjoying the hell out of it ever since!

It's been about six months and I've evolved in my painting. About three months ago I found out about Kingdom Death: Monster and the fantastic miniatures that come with that board game. The miniatures are more detailed that others that I've worked on and can be more challenging to do justice. Still, I'm proud of my progression so I wanted to start by showcasing this work and how it's been progressing.

This blog will be a bit open in format. I'll definitely focus on showing the work that I've completed and I'll try to show it in a chronological format. Since I'm pretty obsessed with Kingdom Death: Monster most of the miniatures I'll showcase will be from this board game. I hope that this will eventually become a forum to meet like minded individuals and a place to learn more about all things miniatures. I welcome comments and constructive criticism. I look forward to seeing where this blog goes and most importantly, I hope that anyone that reads this enjoys it.

Best!
