My Second KDM Miniature... I think. Alister the Survivor (Painted Late Aug, 18)
This is a new blog and so I wanted to get a few posts out ASAP just to fill up space. As time progresses, posts will be made at a more regular interval. Also, lot of my initial posts will be of KDM miniatures that I've already painted and I'm not 100 percent sure which came second, third, etc, chronologically speaking. Still, I have a general idea, so I'll wing it for a bit. Back to topic...
"Once upon a time, there was a place of carved stone faces. A man with a lantern lay sleeping a dreamless sleep. The man knew nothing. One day, the man woke up. He rubbed the dried ink caked over his eyes and opened them. Around hi, e saw other people stirring, and beyond, a horizon of unbroken darkness."
My second painted KDM miniature (maybe?) was Alister, the Survivor. Shortly after getting Percival and finishing her up, I had become completely infatuated with KDM as a game. I did a lot of reading, watched a few YouTube clips on how the game was played, and ordered the 1.5 Edition along with some other expansions and pinup miniatures. I put together a lot of the starting figures for the core game and started painting...
Alister was painted in early to mid to late August 2018. This is a basic recreation of how Alister is drawn in the instruction manual. Since I've been trying to work on techniques, my strategy for color and style has been to mimic what the artists of KDM have depicted their characters to look like. For example: Alister has darkened eye sockets that are reminiscent of the illustration in the prologue. In the beginning, I didn't want to tackle eyes (you'll see my first attempt , it isn't pretty) but I tried to faithfully recreate the darkened eye shadow notable on each of the original survivors.

The cloth wrapped around Alister's body is intended to look raged and dirty, in keeping with how he is first depicted in the KDM universe. Also his skin is necrotic pale, again, how he's depicted. Kinda.
There are a lot of touch-ups to do going forward, but I'm pretty proud of him.
A comment of the base: If you have a KDM miniature, you'll know how detailed the bases can be, even the basic ones. For myself, I've been trying to keep a consistent style with them: unless otherwise depicted in artwork, I've wanted mine to look like carved stone made of weathered shale or slate.
