Presenting My Newest Nemesis: The Gold Smoke Knight (painted 2/7/19)

Image
"A flash of light splits the darkness, illuminating the approaching shape of an enormous knight holding a massive ornate maul. Great plumes of inky smoke pour from every gap of the knight's golden armor. The Gold Smoke Knight speaks in an unknown language, a hollow metallic voice echoing from its armor. It stands at ease, awaiting its challengers." -  Excerpt from Kingdom Death: Monster, The Gold Smoke Knight Showdown When I first got the Kingdom Death: Monster Core Game , one of the miniatures that I found most intriguing from a hobbyist perspective was the Gold Smoke Knight. The Gold Smoke Knight was one of the first miniatures that I put together, and back then, that's as far as I wanted to go. Given how a lot of other miniature painters represented the Gold Smoke Knight, I didn't want to paint this bad boy till I was able to give it the justice it deserved. Fast forward seven months later and I decided to give GSK a try. Not because I'm good e...

Another KD Satan Miniature: the Santa Satan 30mm Edition (Painted 2/1/19)

Image
After working on the Lonely Tree  Kingdom Death Miniature for over a week, I wanted to work on something that wouldn't take white as much time. Last December, a few specials showed up on the Kingdom Death Store including a few special Christmas miniatures. One was a Satan special edition: a 50mm pinup display miniature that unbeknownst to me, also was accompanied with a 30mm miniature as well. I knew the Santa Satan 50mm came with a mysterious extra something, but I wasn't expecting another miniature! So I took this as a sign, put together the 30mm Santa Satan Miniature and primed her up for painting. Before I begin to regurgitate my painting process and how the overall experience was, I do want to note two things: 1. Normally I have someone better than myself taking the pictures. Alas, for this miniature there was just myself to take pictures. I apologize beforehand.  2. This miniature does contain nudity (specifically nip slips). While I do have a disclai...

The Next Monster: The Lonely Tree (Painted 1/21/19)

Image
"If you can see the Lonely Tree for what it really is, it's probably too late. This carnivorous organism hypnotizes anything that comes near, luring prey with hallucinations of their innermost desires. Once they draw near, the hallucinations turn to ceaseless dreams, while the roots consume the victim in their sleep." - Kingdom Death: Monster - Lonely Tree Expansion Lonely Tree and Lonely Lady, together again (not so lonely now) I've always liked to keep a balance in the miniatures I paint, and excluding all the busty babes that I paint, I think I've done a good job at keeping this balance. To prove this, after the Paladin miniature, I decided to work on a monster that had been sitting in my collection for quite some time: The Lonely Tree. The Lonely Tree was actually the first expansion that I had ever purchased from the Kingdom Death Store . I had painted the Lonely Lady miniature very early on (she was actually my third KDM miniature ev...

My First Commission Work: A Bear

Image
As is sometimes the case with obsessions, people whom exhibit obsessive tendencies sometimes see support groups form around them. These support groups are formed to help encourage or help impede the obsession. Miniature painting has become my obsession. Thankfully, the support group that has formed around me has been one of encouragement rather than hindrance. Good thing too! As an act of kindness (or perhaps an act of pity) a member of my support group reached out to me a month ago to inquire about painting a miniature for her. She even offered to pay me! If you've been keeping up with my posts, you've seen my work. Therefore you should find this as incredulous as I did. However, I am not a proud individual, so I bowed to the request to get paid to paint a miniature for some one. Here's the end result. A bit of background regarding the request: the best friend of my fiancé lives some distance away (for convenience sake, let's call this individual "Katy...

Another Attempt at the Paladin (Painted 1/12/19)

Image
We've run into the second week of Jan 2019 and already I had one miniature finished - the Necromancer  - showcased in my last post. By the time I had her finished I already knew what I wanted to work on next. Kingdom Death's Paladin miniature. In case you didn't read my earlier posting, this wasn't the first time that I've worked on the Kingdom Death Paladin miniature. In fact, a previous post showcased the Paladin Variant that I had painted a month or so ago. Now in that previous post, I did not hide the fact that the miniature painted was a knock-off that I had purchased some time before I knew what Kingdom Death was (I have since only purchased verified Kingdom Death miniatures from the official store or from third parties on eBay). Still, the experience of painting the Paladin Variant got me asking:  whats the difference between legitimate Kingdom Death miniatures versus the knockoffs? Sure the miniature had a few cosmetic flaws, but not so much tha...

Another Echoes of Death Miniature: The Necromancer (Painted 1/8/19)

Image
Painting the Fighter from the Echoes of Death Series 1 compilation was a lot of fun, so I wanted to try out another of the miniatures from the same series. I was able to put together the Necromancer and the Sorcerer, but I messed up the Sorcerer up a bit (I forgot to put in a portion of her cape). Since I mucked up the Sorcerer I decided to work on the Necromancer next. Sometimes the universe decides. Maybe by the time I start up with the Sorcerer, I'll forget what she's supposed to look like... It was the beginning of 2019 when I started up with the Necromancer miniature and I wanted to try something different. In previous months, I'd paint maybe two days in a week but I'd get a lot done. Still, waiting to paint was starting to drive me nuts. This year, I decided to dedicate at least a few hours a day to painting. So almost every day, I'd wake up three hours or so earlier than I normally would wake up, and paint. The Necromancer is a culmination of 4 days of ...
